The Art of Caring for Your Brass

Brass is a living metal — it breathes, patinas, and tells the story of its journey through time. Unlike stainless steel or chrome, brass develops a natural patina that many collectors consider its greatest beauty. But with proper care, you can maintain its golden lustre or encourage an even, intentional patina — the choice is yours.

To clean your brass piece, start with the gentlest method: a soft, dry cotton cloth. Simply buff the surface in circular motions. For most day-to-day maintenance, this is all you need. The natural oils from your hands actually help preserve the finish, so regular handling and admiration is encouraged.

For deeper cleaning, create a paste with fresh lemon juice and baking soda (or use our recommended brass polish). Apply gently with a soft cloth, rinse with distilled water, and dry immediately. Never use abrasive materials or harsh chemical cleaners — they will scratch the surface and strip the protective lacquer.

Store your brass pieces in a dry environment away from direct sunlight for extended periods. If displaying in a puja room or near a window (as Vastu often recommends), simply dust weekly and enjoy the warm glow that only genuine brass can provide. Your piece was Abhimantrit before it left us — the energy remains as long as the brass is cared for with intention.
